For three nights only, Reagan Stage presented the musical “The Prince of Egypt,” inspired by the DreamWorks movie.
“The Prince of Egypt” was brought to life as a full-scale musical, combining multiple fine arts programs, including theater, choir, orchestra, and band. Reagan Stage obtained the rights to perform the show through Music Theatre International, the official licensing publisher. The music was composed by Stephen Schwartz, who also wrote “Wicked.”
Reagan truly delivered an impressive show. The set was simple but impactful, featuring tall tombstones painted with hieroglyphics, large steps, and platforms of varying heights to represent ancient Egypt, along with a half-built pyramid.
Throughout the play, the cast climbed and interacted with the stage and props, adding depth and energy to the performance. The story began with Moses and his mother and gradually introduced his family and other key characters, helping the audience follow the plot more easily.
One of the most powerful moments came during the song “Deliver Us,” sung by the Hebrew slaves. Christian Mendoza, who played Moses, delivered a standout performance that was nothing short of outstanding.
The music flowed seamlessly throughout the show, with effective contrasts between the actors and the scenes. The ensemble was consistently strong, full of emotion and energy, while the orchestra and additional vocalists added depth not as present in the movie.
Overall, “The Prince of Egypt” was one of Reagan’s most outstanding shows, with every performance completely sold out.
