The Loop 1604 North Expansion project has brought a new improvement to Loop 1604 and Blanco with the TxDOT brand new Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDI).
According to TxDOT, this innovative road will help the flow of traffic to one of the corridor’s busiest intersections.
The DDI will move vehicles to the left side of Blanco Road as they cross Loop 1604, letting drivers make left turns without having to cross lanes of oncoming traffic, improving both safety and traffic flow.
All permanent lane configurations and pedestrian amenities are expected to be finished by the end of this summer.
For the meantime, drivers still are adjusting to the new changes, with police directing traffic during peak hours.
“The intersection is definitely very confusing and chaotic,” Junior Easton Stentzel said. “Definitely pay attention and be mindful of other cars.”
