North East Independent School District (NEISD) Superintendent Dr. Sean Maika has announced he will step down from his role in January 2026, after more than six years leading the district.
Maika shared the news in a letter to NEISD staff, students, and families on Monday.
“I am grateful for the trust and support you have shown to both NEISD and to me personally,” Maika said. “It has been an honor and a privilege to serve this remarkable community.”
Among his achievements, Maika established a state‑of‑the‑art cybersecurity magnet school, helped NEISD become one of the first districts in the nation to sign a formal partnership with NASA, and guided the district to be recognized by Forbes Magazine on five separate occasions as one of the “Best Places to Work.”
“I am grateful for the trust and support you have shown to both NEISD and to me personally,” Maika said. “It has been an honor and a privilege to serve this remarkable community.”
