Band
The Reagan Band has students split into five different performing concert bands, four of which perform for UIL. Both the Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band won one of the highest achievements from the musical competition UIL called sweepstakes, which is when every judge across the board gives the ensemble a one. Concert Band 1 was awarded 1 1 2 for the concert, and 1 1 1 for sightreading. Concert Band 2 was given 1 1 2 for the concert and sightreading portions.
Orchestra
The Reagan Orchestra has students split into five different performing ensembles, all of which perform for UIL. Keeping up their multiple year long streak, every ensemble got sweepstakes across the board.
Choir
The Reagan Choir has students split into seven different performing ensembles, all of which perform for UIL. Like Orchestra, the Choir also achieved sweepstakes with every ensemble, but on top of that, the Kantorei ensemble was awarded with a Performance of Distinction award by the directorial staff here at Reagan.
Yearbook
The UIL yearbook competition, run through the Interscholastic League Press Conference (ILPC), works differently from other fine arts contests. Instead of competing live, schools submit their completed yearbook from the previous school year for judging.
Judging happens over an extended timeline. After submission, schools receive results the following year. First, the book is evaluated against UIL standards and given a rating. Books that meet a high level of quality can earn distinctions such as an Award of Distinguished Merit.
Yearbooks that receive top ratings are then advanced to an additional level of competition, where they are compared against other top books in the state. At this stage, they can earn a star award—bronze, silver, or gold—based on overall excellence.
Last year’s book earned a preliminary Award of Distinguished Merit and went on to receive a bronze star for outstanding achievement.
Update: When theater UIL results are released, this story will be updated with those results.
