After 12 years of leadership at Reagan High School, Head Athletic Coordinator and Head Football Coach Lyndon Hamilton, affectionately known as “Coach Ham,” has announced he is stepping down from his position. In an emotional email sent to faculty and staff on February 4, 2025, Coach Ham reflected on his time at the school and his decision to take on a new role as Athletic Director and Head Football Coach in Gonzales, Texas.
Coach Ham’s tenure at Reagan has been marked by a commitment to excellence, both on and off the field. Under his leadership, the Rattlers built a culture centered on faith, family, education, and athletics—values that have guided both his personal and professional journey.
“The past twelve years have been an amazing ride at the Reagan Ranch; I’ve utilized 25% of my time on Earth at Reagan. I would not trade my time here for anything in the world,” Coach Ham wrote in his farewell message.
His departure marks the end of an era for Reagan athletics, but his legacy remains woven into the fabric of the school’s athletic program. Throughout his years of coaching, he cultivated strong relationships with students, faculty, and the Stone Oak community. His leadership helped shape the young men and women who came through his program, including his own sons.
For many of his athletes, the news of his departure was unexpected and bittersweet.
“I thought Coach Ham was a great coach. He’s always looking out for the team. It’s sad to see him go, but I want to congratulate him on an amazing career here at Reagan,” said senior Tyler Hurst.
Junior Cole Higby echoed those sentiments: “It’s definitely a punch in the gut. Not really expected at all. He’s been here for all my high school career, but it’s exciting for him. I’m really happy for him.”
Coach Ham expressed his gratitude to the administration, coaching staff, and mentors who played pivotal roles in his career. He gave special thanks to Dr. R and the administrative team, as well as Coach Kelly Parker and his assistant athletic directors. He also acknowledged Coach David Wetzel for bringing him to Reagan, along with mentors like Coach Tim Teykl and Neal Lahue, who helped shape him as a young man.
As he prepares for the next chapter in Gonzales, Coach Ham reassured the Reagan community that he and his family will always hold a special place in their hearts for the school and its people.
Reagan High School will now begin the search for a new head coach to carry on the tradition of excellence that Coach Ham helped establish. While his departure is bittersweet, his impact on the program will be felt for years to come.
Keep Striking, Coach Ham!
