Don’t have a dress for prom? NEISD will host Project Fairytale this Saturday at the NECPTA Clothes Closet, 3736 Perrin Central, Bldg. 1, offering free prom attire to NEISD high school students from 9 to 11:30 a.m.

Prom attire is available to shoppers on a first-come, first-served basis, with dresses, suits and accessories provided at no cost.

“This is our third year as a district and our first year in a new location,” Roxana Gutierrez-Garcia said. “Everybody gets to take two outfits if they want, and it’s free of charge.”

The program relies on community donations, accepting prom attire year-round. Items can be new or used, as long as they are in good condition.

“We accept donations year-round, but we also do a drive in the spring,” Gutierrez-Garcia said. “We’re trying to make it look like a boutique.”

Beyond providing free attire, the program also helps students complete their look by offering a flyer for alterations and dry cleaning services within the district.

“You snap a picture of the flyer and take that with you, and they’ll give you a certain percent off the service they provide,” she said.

Project Fairytale has helped students who are unable to afford prom attire or who do not have other options.
